Congratulations Dr. Will Browne!
Huge contratulations to Dr. Will Browne, who becomes the first PhD graduate from the Schumann Lab! Having joined the lab back in 2019, Will was part of a small but burgeoning research group excited about new tools to study glycans. Will battled his way through a thrilling project; employing fragment-based drug discovery to find inhibitors of the enzyme UDP-galactose-4-epimerase (GALE). Such compounds would be invaluable tools to study glycan biosynthesis, alongside having potential as potent chemotherapeutics.
The lab was delighted to see Will breeze through his PhD defence (with NO corrections!) and produce an excellent thesis which will be available to read shortly! Thankfully, the lab won't be losing Will just yet, as he'll be further investigating inhibitors of GALE through a Crick Idea to Innovation (i2i) postdoctoral fellowship. PhD students in the group are faced with a tough act to follow!
