David is a 2nd Year PhD student jointly supervised by Ben Schumann, Matthew Fuchter & Yan Liu from Imperial College London. His research involves incorporating novel chemical tools such as photoswitches into biological molecules to study their role at the cell surface, with a particular focus on glycoconjugates.

David completed his BSc Natural Sciences (Chemsitry Major with Biology) at the University of Bath in 2020 before moving to Imperial College London to complete an MRes in Drug Discovery and Development. He also has completed placements in industry, with an industrial placement in the GSK Chemical Biology unit in 2019. This interdisciplinary background led to the acceptance of a PhD studentship within the group in 2021, with an objective of bringing together traditional organic synthesis methods with the glycobiology interests of the Schumann group at the Francis-Crick Institute.
