Apoorva started her research career as an organic chemist. She obtained her PhD under the guidance of Professor Geert Jan Boons in University of Georgia (USA) and Utrecht University (The Netherlands). In the Boons group, she worked on the chemo-enzymatic synthesis of N-glycans expressed by the parasite Schistosoma mansoni and studied their interactions with immunomodulatory proteins.

After a short industrial stint where she worked on the synthesis of novel drug candidates pertaining to small molecules as well as sugars, she joined Imperial College in August 2022 as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate with Dr Benjamin Schumann in the Department of Chemistry, where she will work on various chemo-enzymatic and chemical biology techniques to understand the physiological roles of carbohydrates. In a joint collaboration with the Glycoscience laboratory lead by Prof. Ten Feizi and Dr. Yan Liu, she is also a member of the Carbohydrate Microarray Facility supported by Wellcome Trust where she will be involved in the design and expansion of carbohydrate recognizing probes in micro-array studies.
